Banksy "Monkey Poison" sells for 2.000.000 USD less fees on Phillips Auction.

From Phillips.com "Stenciled in spray paint atop an Old Masters reproduction encased in a gilded frame, ‘Monkey Poison’ exemplifies the satirical overtones of Banksy’s renowned street art transferred to the realm of “high art”. Bridging the disparate realms of graffiti and high art, the work is the artist’s own tongue-in-cheek response to the corrupt modern-day world that we inhabit, inviting both laughter and contemplation from those who encounter it.".

The painting measuring ca 91 x 61 cm is a so called Banksy addition on a found canvas. Danish artist

Asger Jorn introduced this type of paintings in the 70´s. A forced collaboration if you like.

Introducing the painting with the Monkey Phillips depicts the exact large Monkey "Laugh Now" that we have in pour collection. And this Monkey is BIG unlike the small one here from Phillips.
