ANDY WARHOL (1928-1987)
Halston Torso
graphite and colored graphic art paper collage on two stitched sheets
32¾ x 21 in. (83.2 x 53.3 cm.)
Drawn circa 1982.
This work represents a combination never before seen: a collage of two drawings stitched together with no seemingly commercial purpose in mind. The Halston Torso was created in the same year as the Halston fashion advertising campaign that Warhol was commissioned to create for several publications. Having no other examples for comparison or study, the artist’s final intent for this work, other than pure experimentation or art for art’s sake, remains a mystery.
